Fundraising

Past activities for the NKFC in Cambodia have been entirely funded by the support of generous donors.

Funds were raised through fundraising events in London (1999) and in New York (2000).  These funds (along with smaller occasional donations) have allowed the charity to operate on the ground in Cambodia for 20 years – for which we are very proud.

Circle of Friends

In this time of crisis, we turn to you once again to seek your support to keep alive the hopes and dreams of a troupe of young performers dedicated to carry on the tradition of the Cambodian Classical Ballet and popular dances that rhythm the pace of rural life.

In the continuation of our mission, NKFC created in 2007 the “Conservatoire of the Sacred Dancers of Angkor” in the vicinity of Banteay Srei, with the exceptional patronage and guidance of late H.R.H Princess Buppha Devi, who embodied the sacred art of the Royal Cambodian Ballet, perpetuating a thousand-year tradition of the celestial Apsara dancers, as carved in the stone temples of the UNESCO Word Heritage Angkor complex.

Known as the “Citadel of Women”, Banteay Srei is a gem of the Khmer medieval architecture, distinguished by its red sandstone. This magic site also inspired NKFC to pay tribute to its cultural roots and re-establish the link between past, present and future. It is here the traditionally trained dancers and musicians combine both rigorous technical training along with embarking on their own spiritual journeys through daily prayers and meditations.

However, this living testimony remains fragile as are many cultural projects. While trying to be self-sufficient by performing twice weekly at the Divine Sala and offering special exhibitions at our Conservatoire in Banteay Srei, COVID-19 put a halt to such revenues. As a result, their salaries have had to be cut by 30%.

Even with the recent “Música Felice Sofitel” Concert Fundraising and some generous private donations4, we are struggling to keep our unique troupe of young performers alive.

It is our honour to invite you to join our “Circle of Friends” to prevent our Conservatoire from becoming a “collateral” victim of the global pandemic.

Please consider contributing with a one-time donation (Hanouman Level) or a recurring support (Apsara Level) at:

All our invaluable Friends will have their names inscribed by the Achar (Holy Man) on the ancient traditional Sastra (palm leaves manuscript), which will be placed on the Conservatoire altar to receive the daily blessing chants and incantations, as well as written on a blessed Banian leaf attach to our Tree of Life.

Sincerely,

Ravynn Karet-Coxen
