NKFC “TREE DAY” CAMPAIGN 2009
THE NGINN KARET FOUNDATION FOR CAMBODIA (NKFC) WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE MANY GENEROUS DONORS WHO PARTICIPATED IN LAST YEAR’S FIRST EVER “TREE DAY” CAMPAIGN WHICH SUCCESSFULLY RAISED €2337 FOR 2000 TREES WHICH CONTRIBUTED TO THE EDUCATION OF IMPOVERISHED CHILDREN ATTENDING PRIMARY SCHOOLS BUILT BY NKFC, IN THE VILLAGES OF ROHALL (357) AND TAKOH (344) IN THE DISTRICT OF BANTEAY SREY.
WE NOW INVITE YOU TO JOIN US IN THE SECOND PHASE OF OUR CAMPAIGN.
This year your much needed support and participation will contribute to NKFC’s educational programmes for both pre-school and primary school children, as well as the first basic English tuition programme being run in the 14 adopted villages in the Banteay Srey district.
Seven months ago the children, led by our agriculture team, learnt about the importance and multiple roles of trees in the environment. They studied how trees help us to breathe, provide us with food and shelter and how they are home for many diverse kinds of animals. To increase their understanding of how better to protect the environment and help save “mother earth” they learnt about growing trees from seeds and saplings. This innovative programme also helped the children to understand the process of conserving water in the irrigation and watering process as well as the techniques of making natural compost to avoid the sometimes harmful effects and financial cost of using chemical fertilisers.
To sustain their education and help generate much needed income they grew 3000 fruit trees to sell in their appeal. With dignity and pride they now hope to sell the fruits of their labour.
We hope that many of you from all walks of life – locals and tourists alike – will respond to their efforts and their unique “tree day’ campaign by assisting them in their thirst for knowledge and to help them build the foundations of their educational journey.
Please respond to the children’s “tree day’ appeal and purchase as little as one tree to show your encouragement and support and help protect the most crucial element of a child’s life: EDUCATION
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP
